SEU’s College of Arts & Media to Host Drum Corps International Tour
This summer, Southeastern University’s College of Arts & Media will be the host to the 2016 DCI Central Florida Drum Corps International Tour event. The marching music competition, the first ever in Polk County, is one of three that will be held this July in Florida.
Drum Corps International (DCI), Marching Music’s Major League™, annually organizes the DCI Tour, which features more than 50 marching music ensembles that travel across the country to perform and compete at more than 100 events including the season-ending DCI World Championships in Indianapolis.
“It’s been four years since the DCI Tour has stopped in Florida, and we are very excited to make Lakeland the very first show in this three-event series,” said DCI Executive Director and CEO Dan Acheson. “The administration at Southeastern University has been incredible to work with in organizing and making this event a possibility.”
This competition, taking place Saturday, July 9, 2016, at 7:30 p.m., will feature eight performing ensembles, including a number of perennial DCI World Championship finalist corps. The lineup will include performances by the Bluecoats (Canton, OH), Boston Crusaders (Boston, MA), The Cadets (Allentown, PA), Crossmen (San Antonio, TX), Heat Wave (Inverness, FL), Jersey Surf (Camden County, NJ), Legends (Kalamazoo, MI) and Spirit of Atlanta (Atlanta, GA).
Ticketing will be available through Drum Corps International online at DCI.org or by phone at 317.275.1212 beginning Monday, March 21, at noon EDT.
Schools in neighboring counties are being solicited to house corps. All corps are eager to have students watch their rehearsals, providing a unique educational opportunity for students.
According to Dean Collins, “Hosting this competition is a total community endeavor, and we’ll need its support in welcoming a national audience of such magnitude. Undoubtedly, we’re privileged to partner with DCI.”
