New Programs – Fall 2018

From our record-breaking enrollment in the fall of 2017 to celebrating our largest-ever graduating class in the spring of 2018, SEU has been on a rapid growth trend and is well poised to continue expanding our program offerings for our undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students. Here’s a look at what’s coming this fall.

Tourism & Hospitality Management

There is no better place to pursue a degree in tourism than in Central Florida. That’s why we’re adding the Bachelor of Arts in Tourism & Hospitality Management. With the close proximity of theme parks, major hubs for entertainment, professional sports, and resorts, our Lakeland campus is conveniently located near it all.

“This degree in Tourism & Hospitality Management will focus not only on contemporary management theories, but also on how we as Christians can positively impact this industry,” said Dr. Beth Leslie, assistant professor of management and chair of this new program. “Our goal is to equip our students with knowledge and experience, so upon graduation, they are highly capable and ready to begin their careers in tourism and hospitality.”

Beyond the many local opportunities for practical, hands-on experience, the coursework in the degree will prepare our students with a solid foundation in business. This includes classes in finance, marketing, information systems, business law and management. Students can plan to pursue careers as resort managers, cruise line managers, tour operators and many other options.

Political Science

Southeastern is excited to reintroduce a Bachelor of Science in Political Science degree. This degree will equip graduates to enter into decision-making roles at the highest levels of state and federal government, global relief agencies, non-governmental organizations, non-profits and other policy-driven organizations. This degree outlines and explores the historical, theoretical and practical aspects of politics and includes an internship experience.

Communication & Mass Media

Adding to SEU’s ever-growing list of online degrees, the new Bachelor of Science in Communication & Mass Media degree will prepare students for the fast-paced worlds of marketing, communication, public relations, journalism and much more.

Today’s healthcare industry is experiencing constant change and is increasingly requiring a higher standard of knowledge among nursing professionals. The online RN to BSN program offers working registered nurses the opportunity to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree by building on their current career experience, and to earn the degree without interfering with their busy professional schedules.

Double Major in Social Work & Criminal Justice

This double-major program gives students the opportunity to develop a solid understanding of both the criminal justice system and social work. This is an ideal fit for those interested in the specific field of social work within the criminal justice context. Students will learn how to provide support for individuals and families throughout the legal process, including serving as client advocates and case managers in court, working in correctional facilities, and much more. Upon graduation, students will also qualify to apply for SEU’s Advanced Standing Master of Social Work (MSW) program.

Master’s in Kinesiology

The master’s degree in Kinesiology equips professionals to excel as leaders in the health, fitness, wellness and education fields, encompassing professions such as an athletic administrator, coach, personal trainer or sport ministry director. The 33-credit-hour program is structured in an eight-week course format, featuring classroom interaction as well as online coursework and live video instruction.

Master of Arts in Family Ministry

Continuing the tradition of excellence that has made the Barnett College of Ministry & Theology a cornerstone of academics at SEU, the new Master of Arts in Family Ministry degree is for individuals interested in serving children, youth and families in the role of a pastor or parachurch ministry leader. The program, which is offered through a combination of online and face-to-face classes, is designed for students who are already serving in ministry.

MBA in Healthcare Administration

As the healthcare industry continues to evolve, skillful leaders are becoming even more crucial. Graduates with an MBA in Healthcare Administration from SEU are equipped to not only help meet this need, but also to perform their roles with integrity. The program will include courses in business principles in the healthcare context, specifically looking at how they apply to healthcare organization and governance, economics and finance, information technology, law, quality management and more. The Healthcare Administration track is the latest addition to the other tracks of study within the MBA at SEU: Executive, Missional Leadership and Sport Management.

PhD in Organizational Leadership & Doctorate in Strategic Leadership (DSL)

SEU’s newest doctoral programs, the PhD and DSL, launched successfully in May of this year. Another set of students is scheduled to start these programs in August of 2018. Students who are interested in applying for this program are still able to do so for the fall start date.
