MEET YOUR STATE’S CARRY THE TORCH LEADERSHIP TEAM
Gloria Stephens (Class of 1975)
I’m Gloria Parker Stephens. I attended Southeastern University when it was Southeastern Bible College — lovingly called “Essie Bessie.” I graduated in 1975 with a degree in Elementary Education. Unlike a lot of my classmates, I did not follow the teaching path. I was more afraid of children than they were of me! I am from Montgomery, Alabama, (Roll Tide!) and I currently live about 20 miles south of Montgomery. I am living the retired life with my sweet husband Ken Stephens (also an alum). Between us we have five fabulous children and five fantastic grandchildren. One of my favorite memories of Southeastern is the presence of the Holy Spirit in the classrooms. There were many times our professors let the Spirit have control and we worshipped and sang during class time. Nine years ago, we planned an SEBC ‘70s Reunion. How blessed I have been to renew those friendships. My college friends have prayed with me, cried with me, and celebrated with me. I thank the Lord they are a part of my life and for our years at Southeastern.
