Professor Yoon Shin brings a passion for theological and philosophical education for the church. With a diverse background in the military, ministry, missions and sales, he understands the need for critical thinking and penetrating minds in the church to navigate through the moral, intellectual, spiritual and political maze of contemporary culture.

Professor Shin is a passionate advocate for apologetics, especially reformed epistemology. His background in the presuppositionalism of his former professor John Frame has also led him to appreciate the apologetic value of the hermeneutic traditions. Thus, his focus on philosophical theology does not merely rest on issues of doctrine, but, more importantly, on epistemology and ontology.

Professor Shin is a licensed minister of the Assemblies of God and a committed Pentecostal who emphasizes the triperspectival integration of orthodoxy, orthopathos and orthopraxis in the life of the Christian. Thus, the goal of his educational ministry is to cultivate this integration in all his students.

Professor Shin’s research interests include the following:

  • Pentecostal epistemology
  • Reformed epistemology
  • Apologetics
  • Philosophical theology
  • Hermeneutics and language
  • Intersection between Pentecostalism and the philosophical ideas of the Dutch
  • Reformed tradition
