Professor Scott Gaffney comes to Southeastern University with 19 years of social work experience in multiple agencies, departments, and organizations. He began his early social work career with an emphasis on child welfare and family and substance abuse counseling. Professor Gaffney worked for the Department of Children and Families, Dependency Court, and Family Builders while focusing on the protection and stabilization of the family unit. He continued his advocacy for patients and families while working as a hospital social worker working in the critical care, cancer, surgery, emergency, and trauma units. Professor Gaffney most recently worked for a local hospice agency as a Clinical Social Service Specialist, Social Services Coordinator, Social Services Manager, and Volunteer and Bereavement Manager. In addition, he has served as a camp administrator and counselor at Camp Brave Heart, a bereavement retreat for grieving children and adolescents.

Professor Gaffney brings a passion for patient’s rights, end of life issues, human dignity, and self-determination to his teaching practice. He is excited to share his knowledge and experience to the next generation of social workers. Professor Gaffney teaches Introduction to Social Work, Understanding Human Diversity, Human Behavior in the Social Environment, Mental Health Systems and Strategies, Social Welfare Policy, and Advanced Clinical Practice with Individuals.
