Dr. Steve Henderson was born into a pastor’s family and raised on the west coast. He met his wife-to-be, Gayla, on the first day of their junior year. She has been his lifelong love and partner for nearly 45 years. They have two grown children with four grandboys. Dr. Henderson is excited about investing his life in the lives of future education leaders and counts it a great honor to be part of the family and faculty at Southeastern. Dr. Henderson teaches public policy, leadership and ethics in the online format, courses in educational leadership and organizational leadership, as well as the EdD orientation course.
Dr. Henderson served for eight years in state government and for more than 35 years in higher education. He was on the leadership team of a number of institutions, including Oral Roberts University, Pittsburg State University and Ecclesia College, as well as served as the assistant vice chancellor for the University of Arkansas. He was also the assistant administrator for Portland Bible College and supervising management analyst for the state of Oregon’s health division.
Dr. Henderson founded Christian Consulting for Colleges and Ministries Inc. (known as Christian Consulting) and served as its president for nearly 20 years. His ongoing national study on what happens to Christian students if they go to non-Christian colleges has been a widely quoted source for promoting the value of a Christian college education. He has provided on-campus assistance to nearly 150 colleges and universities throughout the U.S. and Canada. Prior to starting Christian Consulting, Dr. Henderson was the vice president for recruitment consultation of the Noel Levitz Center for Enrollment Management (the largest U.S. higher education consulting firm).
Dr. Henderson is a senior fellow of the Association for Biblical Higher Education and a frequent speaker at national and statewide conferences on college-related topics, more specifically college choice, leadership and ethics. His most recent publications include “Why Choose a Christian College” (Renewanation Magazine and Your Roadmap to Christian Colleges, published by The Christian Connector Inc.); “Investing in Their Faith: How your teen ‘s college choice can impact their future” (Today ‘s Christian Woman); “A Question of Price Versus Cost” (Christianity Today); and “The Impact of Student Religion and College Affiliation on Student Religiosity” (presented at the NASPA Envisioning the World conference).
