BS, Exceptional Student Education, Southeastern University
Rebecca Sumner graduated from Southeastern University in December 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Exceptional Student Education. She began her teaching career in Polk County as an Exceptional Student Education (ESE) teacher at Bartow Middle School where she taught reading for 6th, 7th and 8th grade. After three years of teaching at the middle school level, she transitioned to working at Lakeland Christian School as an Exceptional Student Education (ESE) teacher for kindergarten to 5th grade. Two years later, she was able to move up with her 5th grade class and assume the position as the Exceptional Student Education (ESE) teacher for 6th, 7th and 8th grade.
In July 2018, Rebecca joined Southeastern University as a classroom teacher at Pathways School of Excellence. She knew the Lord’s hand was at work when He made it very clear that it was time for her to return to her alma mater and serve Him as the young Pathways School of Excellence was expanding yet again and adding a fifth classroom.
Rebecca has been married to her husband Brett since August 2016. They enjoy serving the Lord together and one ministry that they are a part of is hosting students from China. Another aspect of this ministry is that Rebecca teaches students from China each summer and online throughout the school year.
