Dr. Leonard Giammatteo’s background has been in education as a teacher, coach, counselor, administrator, and university professor. He is the sport psychology coach for the Southeastern University athletic teams and chaplain for the men’s golf team. He has been a guest speaker for Polk County Sports Marketing on the local Lakeland radio sports talk show WONN. His expertise has helped Southeastern’s men’s golf team and Florida Southern’s women’s golf teams win a national championship and other individuals find success in athletics.

His 32-plus years experience in the field of teaching has inspired his students toward outstanding careers and athletic success. He has worked with the following organizations: Polk County Public Schools, Boys and Girls Club of America, The Lakeland Rotary Club, Lakeland Runners Club, St. Paul Lutheran Schools, Victory School, Florida Southern College, Southeastern University, The Florida League of Christian Schools, and the Association of Christian Schools International.

Dr. “G,” as he is know on campus, has specialized training in sport psychology, mental game coaching, and team building, and has experience in Strategies for Effective Interventions for Golf & Tennis Cultures and Psychological Interventions for Sport Injuries. He teaches courses in sport psychology, sport finance, sport marketing, facilities and event management, sociology of sports, sport law, methods of teaching physical education, and coaching basketball. He was named the Southeastern University College of Education faculty member of the year and has received student-initiated recognition from Who’s Who of College Educators and Empires Who’s Who Among Executives and Professionals. He is also the only faculty member who has completed a graduate certificate in college teaching from the University of South Florida.

Dr. Giammatteo is locally recognized as a leading expert in sport psychology and performance enhancement with extensive graduate and post-graduate studies in the fields of psychology of sports and counseling. He became a certified counselor in 1990 and has over a decade of clinical experience. His training goes beyond the traditional classroom as he has held certification as a sport psychology consultant with the Association of Applied Sport Psychology form 2004 to 2007. He is also a certified mental trainer in sports and is qualified at the master level in sport psychology with the American Coaching Effectiveness Program.

He is a member within the American Association of Christian Counselors, American Psychological Association Division 47 Exercise and Sport Psychology, Association of Applied Sport Psychology and the United States Golf Association.

Other professional credentials include certificates in managing and training people from Cornell University and Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. He is also an ordained minister with the Evangel Fellowship International. He and his wife reside in central Florida with their champion athlete son.
