Biography

Dr. Lisa Clifton began her social work career serving as a social worker with a rural hospice agency serving in-home and residential clients and their families. Additionally, she provided bereavement care and volunteer coordination.  Dr. Clifton also directed Upward Bound, a Department of Education Federal TRIO Program, at both Morehead State University and the College of Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati, Ohio.

While administering the Upward Bound program, Dr. Clifton completed a Juris Doctor at Northern Kentucky University’s Chase College of Law and practiced law in the area of worker’s compensation defense.

Prior to coming to Southeastern, Dr. Clifton served as BSW Program Director and Chair of the Department of Social Work at Asbury University, where she drafted the self-study and led the program through successful reaccreditation. Dr. Clifton also served on the CSWE Macro Task Force tasked with formulating a curricular guide for macro practice.

Dr. Clifton has taught a variety of courses for BSW and MSW programs, but her passion lies with Administration, Policy and Macro Practice.  At Southeastern, Dr. Clifton teaches Introduction to Social Work, Building Effective Helping Skills, and Social Welfare Policy for both the BSW and MSW programs.
