Jonathan Simon is a representational artist, a native southerner and a graduate of Memphis College of Art. He continued his training under Tony Ryder, author of “The Artist’s Complete Guide to Figure Drawing.” Acceptance to the prestigious Water Street Atelier brought Jonathan under the tutelage of Jacob Collins and Michael Grimaldi. He also studied at the Art Students League of New York, and he earned his master’s degree at the prestigious New York Academy of Art.

Jonathan is an established artist with a growing clientele in New York, Washington D.C. and his native southeast. His work includes still life, portraiture, figurative paintings and complex narratives. He works primarily in oil on linen canvas, as well as in mixed media, acrylic, watercolor and digital media for his 2D works; and in metal, wood and plasteline for his 3D works. He prefers to work from life rather than from photography because it allows him to capture the essence of the sitter and the depth of the subject.

Jonathan is also an illustrator, having published work in magazines such as “Texture,” “Up-Side Media,” “Red Herring,” “Smart Partner,” “Arizona Highways,” “Test & Measurement World” and “Memphis Downtowner.” His list of clients includes Federal Express, Houghton Mifflin, Ellis Harper Advertising Inc., Baptist Memorial Hospital, Ardent Studios, Simms & Murphy Institute and Auburn University.

Jonathan recently relocated to Lakeland, Florida to teach at Southeastern University. As an instructor, he tries to equip his students with all the tools they need to achieve their goals and dreams.
