Dr. Smith joined Southeastern in the summer of 2018 as Assistant Professor of Political Science. He specializes in American politics, political theory, international relations, comparative politics, political economy, and religion. A gifted and passionate teacher, who genuinely cares for his students, he is devoted to equipping them to think critically, live virtuously, and relating their knowledge of politics to real life issues.

He taught American Government, International Relations, and Social Science at the largest college system in the country, Miami Dade College, as well as Political and Social science at the world-class Pan-American Institute for High Business Direction headquartered in Mexico.

Prior to his appointment as Assistant Professor of Political Science at Southeastern, he oversaw the General Honors Program at the University of Miami. Additionally, he facilitated the expansion of graduate research and funding opportunities at the University of Miami’s Graduate School through scholarship programs offered by the Social Science Research Council, the National Science Foundation, and the Ford Foundation.

Dr. Smith is a member of the American Political Science Association and the International Studies Association. He is fluent in English and Spanish, with a working knowledge of French and German.
