Genesis Varela graduated from Southeastern University in May 2018 with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. In April 2019, she graduated with a Master of Education in Exceptional Student Education. Genesis is a faculty member at Southeastern University’s Pathways School of Excellence. She worked as a full-time paraprofessional for two years and accepted a full-time faculty position in the summer of 2019.
Ms. Varela is originally from Denver, Colorado and moved to Lakeland, FL in 2014 to continue her higher education. Prior to her arrival at Pathways, she worked as a teacher’s assistant for the Department of Ministry and Theology at SEU. She also worked as an English and reading tutor at Crystal Lake Elementary. Genesis has an immense passion for missions and visited four different countries to provide support with teaching strategies, resources, and school supplies in Nicaragua, Honduras, Dominican Republic, and Mexico. Genesis has also served as a spiritual mentor and leader for Young Life’s special needs group in the Lakeland community since 2016. In this group, she provides social and spiritual support to a variety of individuals with various exceptionalities in the community through clubs, team meetings, and summer camps.
Genesis believes that education is one of the most important functions performed in the world. She believes that the purpose of teaching is to equip students with academic, social, spiritual, and employability skills. Genesis’s experiences and passion for education have led her into the field of special education. She wants to continue working with students with various exceptionalities in secondary education settings as she continues to support them in finding God’s will for their lives and become future community members.
