Dr. David Yates is an Apple Distinguished Educator who has served students in both K-12 and higher education for 42 years, the past 25 of them at Southeastern. Dr. Yates also worked in the communications field as a production, marketing, and customer service manager for a large cable television system.
From 1990 to 2014, Dr. Yates supervised the award-winning student media production program of the Polk County (FL) public schools while serving as an adjunct professor at Southeastern. Since 2014, Dr. Yates has been the director of faculty training for the university and will soon add a second master’s degree in creative studies from the prestigious International Center for Creative Studies at Buffalo State University.
During his tenure at Southeastern, Dr. Yates has designed and taught eight different courses for three different colleges in both the traditional and online formats, including COMM 1433 (Fundamentals of Speech), COMM 3553 (Advanced Speech), COMM 2233 (Introduction to Mass Communication), COMM 3063 (Communicating Leadership), EDUC 3503 (Instructional Technology), EDUC 5193 (Assessment and Measurement in Teaching), EDUC 5263 (Educational Technology for School Leaders), and LDRS 4003 (Creativity and Critical Thinking for Leaders).
