Growing up in the inner city of Alabama, Dr. Cedrick Valrie’s grandmother often advised him, “Son, use your head for more than a hat rack.” In 2016, he was able to dedicate his dissertation to her after earning his doctorate in leadership and global perspectives. His research focused on the area of critical thinking.
Dr. Valrie enjoys helping students acquire practical life skills as they engage academically. His favorite course to teach at SEU is Christ, Culture, and the University. In this setting he is able to work within his research interests of inspiring students to improve their thinking about academics and about life.
Dr. Valrie and his wife, Sarah, have three children. He has previously served as an associate pastor and has been involved as an inner-city youth mentor. He is an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God.
