Biography

Dr. Paul T. Corrigan has taught at Southeastern University, his alma mater, since 2009. Understanding higher learning as a calling from God, he encourages students to engage deeply in the learning process and to apply what they learn to their life and faith. His courses emphasize writing, reading and dialogue.

Dr. Corrigan earned a PhD in English at the University of South Florida. He earned an MA in English at North Carolina State University, where he studied and taught in a nationally recognized writing program. While an undergraduate at Southeastern, he oversaw the writing center and, for an internship project, taught a series of writing workshops for high school teachers and students in Guimaras, Philippines.

Along with Dr. Rickey Cotton, Dr. Corrigan wrote College in the Spirit: Christian Higher Education as a Calling. This short book, available through Southeastern’s bookstore, presents vision and practice for authentic and faithful learning. It is used in Southeastern’s Christ, Culture and the University course.

Dr. Corrigan oversees the Dialogue on Teaching Excellence and helps lead the Faith Integration Seminar at Southeastern, facilitating in-depth conversations on faith and learning among faculty.

At Southeastern, Dr. Corrigan has taught the following courses: American Literature, World Literature, Contemporary Literature, Introduction to Literature, Literature and the Environment, Latina/o Literature in the U.S., Native American Literature, English Composition II and several others. As a scholar, he writes about poetry, pedagogy and spirituality. His other interests include contemporary and multicultural literature in the United States and around the world.
