You may not be called to pastor a whole congregation, but you have a passion for children's ministry, missions, or another part of the body of Christ. Southeastern's Ministerial Leadership major is designed to prepare Christians to serve in leadership and support roles at churches and other faith-based organizations.

Through Southeastern, you'll benefit from our more than 70-year track record of training men and women to perform every aspect of church ministry, missions, and evangelism. In our practical theology major you'll not only study foundational subjects such as theology and church history, you'll specialize in your particular calling.

Preparing for Service
Southeastern's Ministerial Leadership program begins with our Christ-centered liberal arts (general education) core curriculum, where you develop an understanding and appreciation of God and His creation, human creativity and reason, and our place of responsibility as stewards in the world God has made. As you forge links between what you’ve learned in the core and the more specialized courses in your major, our hope is that you also begin to relate all that you learn to your life and your faith.

In the Ministerial Leadership major itself you'll develop a solid foundation in all of ministry, including Biblical interpretation, counseling, and preaching. Southeaster's core religion curriculum includes four practicum courses through which you'll observe, reflect upon, and ultimately implement ministries in churches and other organizations. Your training also will include a 10-week internship where you'll perform the duties of a staff member at church or other faith-based organization.

Selected Minor
As a practical theology major you will select a minor concentration to develop your skills for a ministry. You may choose from any minor offered in the university, including these offered through our College of Christian Ministries and Religion:

Bible
In our Bible minor you'll study Bible teaching methods, Hebrew and Greek, and Old Testament and New Testament books.

Children's Ministry
In the children's ministry minor, you'll learn to present the gospel to children via drama, music, puppetry, and storytelling. You also will study child development and specific programs that minister to children.

Leadership
In the leadership minor you'll study theories of leadership, human resources management, communication skills, and creating business plans for viable enterprises.

Missions
In the missions minor, you'll study how to understand worldviews of other cultures and communicate the gospel in different cultures.

Pastoral Ministry
In the pastoral ministry minor, you'll study how pastors run churches-from planning, programming, and budgeting, to preaching, counseling, and developing leaders.

Youth
In the youth minor you'll study how to best create relevant programs and worship services that will win youths to Christ and help them grow in the Lord.
