The Southeastern Times
Covering everything from last night's basketball game to next week's student life event, The Southeastern Times is a main source of campus information for the student body. This monthly publication is twelve pages of feature stories, profiles, event coverage, and hard campus and local news.
Though The Southeastern Times focuses on journalism, the staff is composed of a variety of majors- from psychology to business. This helps the newspaper to stay well-informed of on-going events in every department.
As a member of the Florida College Press Association, The Southeastern Times seeks to provide students with real-world experience using the latest in publication software, holding students to deadlines, and working to maintain a high quality publication. The newspaper is held accountable through a faculty advisor and the overseeing of the department chair and dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
Though the staff is composed of mostly writers, there are many positions available for students interested in taking leadership, most of which are offered with scholarships:
- Editor-in-chief directs the paper
- Managing editor creates a story budget and assigns stories
- Sales manager handles advertising sales
- Photo editor assigns all photographers and oversees all photography for each issue
- Layout editor creates the layout for teach issue
- Copy editors edit all of the stories submitted
Students can pick up their own free copy of The Southeastern Times from one of the five racks located around campus. For more frequent news, students can check their Facebook fan page for daily updated articles.
Students looking to get involved with The Southeastern Times can attend the weekly meetings or contact thetimes@seu.edu. The Publications Office is located in upstairs Bolin Hall. |
