Certificate in Legal Studies


The Certificate in Legal Studies is a fifteen credit hour, for- credit program. The entire program is to be completed within one year. The program is included in the academic curricula as a non- degree program. Each class is three credits. The cost of each credit is $255. Interested students must submit a Southeastern University undergraduate application. University fees do apply. Course Descriptions

CJUS 201 Constitutional Law
This course provides and analysis of the historical development of the constitution; the relationship of the states to the Bill of Rights; the effects of the due process clause of the Fourteenth Amendment, and the application of the Bill of Rights to the states are studied through an examination of major Supreme Court cases.

LEGL 102 Introduction to the Legal System
This course reviews the role of the law in American society, and the history of the legal system. Introduction to basic topics include due process; contracts, criminal law, torts and procedures are provided.

LEGL 103 Legal Terminology
This course introduces students to legal terminology, how it is used and applied within the American judiciary system. It also provides an introduction to legal writing and research.

LEGL 104 Legal Research and Writing
This course expands on legal writing and emphasizes legal research.

LEGL 206 Law Office Management
This course will; present legal theory and procedure in a case problem context. Models of the various processes as applied in the law office environment will be introduced. Legal document management, assembly, case management, data base management, computer assisted internal and external research, resource management, and various technological enhancement of traditional processes will be taught. Students will be provided with the theoretical foundations and practical applications of law office management.
