About the Center for Allied Health Education

Southeastern University is on the forefront of providing a high standard of the education, training and development of healthcare professionals. In the face of a shortage of qualified Allied Health professionals in the region, the Department of Public Administration created the Center for Allied Health. The Center’s programs include four Associate Degrees in some of the fastest growing career paths in healthcare: Why a shortage of healthcare workers?
  • the growth and aging of the population
  • technological advances in medicine, including the development of new types of tests
The increase in the number of group practices, clinics, and other health care facilities that need a high proportion of support personnel will fuel employment growth.

Careers in healthcare are personally and professionally rewarding. To prepare students to fill these roles Southeastern emphasizes academic and professional preparation:
  • Strong Curriculum: Emphasizes biological and chemical sciences.
  • Hands-on Experience: Required 700+ observational and practical hours before graduation, including Clinical Externships.
  • Certification Exam Preparation: Entry-level credentials for Medical Assistant, Laboratory Technician, Cardiovascular Technician and Health Information Management.
  • Professional Association Membership(s): Leading industry and professional associations for Allied Health.
To provide students with educational experiences in an actual health care environment, the Center for Allied Health Education is strategically located in an urban acute-care setting, Greater Southeast Community Hospital.

Additionally, we offer support services to foster student success:
  • Learning Resources: Student resource library and lounge, interactive classrooms with Smart Board Technology, computer lab space, wireless Internet connectivity, science/medical software programs, as well as anatomical/medical models and learning aids.
  • Student Services: Full-time, on-site Academic Advisor and Student Support Program Manager, providing one-on-one counseling, resources, and referrals. Pre-College & Refresher Courses: Offered in Math, English and Science.
  • Smarthinking.com: Online tutoring service, free to all Southeastern students.
  • Career & Job Preparation: Job search, resume writing, interview techniques, and professional etiquette via one-on-one and group training.
  • Flexible and Accommodating Schedules: Small, day, evening and weekend classes for full & part-time students.
  • Financial Aid and Scholarships.
