Student Learning Outcomes Training A big Success !!

Though we originally expected 47 faculty members, we had 65 attend this important event. This is further proof of how committed and engage our full-time and adjunct faculty are to the success of Southeastern University and its students. Dr. Virginia Johnson Anderson, Professor of Biology at Towson University was the facilitator of the event. She found our faculty to be very engaged and ready to learn.

Our professors received more than five hours of training in student learning outcomes and the following topics were covered:

  • Using the grading process to enhance student learning
  • Linking grading to classroom assessment
  • Direct and indirect evidence of student learning
  • Examining rubrics and other assessment tools
  • Collecting and analyzing student assessment data
  • Strategies for departments, general education and institutional success
  • Aligning courses to general education and program outcomes
In addition, faculty members in attendance were given copies of the following items:

  • Dr. Johnson's presentation
  • Assessing Student Learning and Institutional Effectiveness; Understanding Middle States Expectations from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education
  • Student Learning Assessment; Options and Resources 2nd Ed. From the Middle States Commission on Higher Education
  • Assessing Student Learning: A Common Sense Guide by Linda Suskie
  • A Culture of Evidence: An evidence- Centered Approach to Accountability for Student Learning Outcomes from ETS
Those who attended found this training to be helpful and it provided a good foundation to further trainings that will occur this year on student learning outcomes assessment. Stay tuned for future training sessions.
