Biography
Dr. Susan Stanley brings many years of experience in the field, with more than 25 years in a variety of educational environments. Her experience includes homeschooling her five children, teaching high school courses in a private Christian school, and providing intervention for students with learning disabilities in a variety of private schools in Central Florida. She was led into the field of Exceptional Student Education (ESE) because of one of her children. Three of her children are adopted, and her youngest daughter was identified with learning disabilities in third grade. Because the private Christian school was unable to provide help, Dr. Stanley made the decision to do what she could to help her daughter. From that beginning, she became a certified educational therapist, providing intervention for students with learning disabilities, working initially in a private Christian school in Lake County as part of the administrative team, providing intervention and supervising a large team of educational therapists. Eventually, the Lord provided the opportunity to open a business for access to intervention for students in a variety of private schools, which led to becoming the Florida State Director of Discovery Program for the National Institute for Learning Development (NILD).

Alongside her experiences in the field of education, including ESE, Dr. Stanley has had a variety of opportunities to provide professional development in the field of ESE. She has taught for the Association of Christian Schools International (ASCI), NILD, Rotary Clubs, Lion's Clubs, Home School Associations, private schools, and parent meetings. She also is an educational consultant, coming alongside ESE programs for many Christian schools in Florida. She has experience in higher education, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses for Liberty University, Belhaven University, Kaplan University, and Lake Sumter Community College before coming to Southeastern University. She's excited to be the coordinator of the five-year degree in ESE, helping her students earn a bachelor's and a master's degree. Her teaching includes ESED 5633 Educating Students with High Incidence Disabilities in the General Education Classroom and ESED 5613 Assessment of ESE Learners. She is also responsible for teaching EDUC 3413 Introduction to Reading and EDUC 3523 Teaching Reading in the Content Areas, always working to help her students catch the importance of making sure every student becomes a fluent reader, no matter what their grade level.

As the wife of a pastor, Dr. Don Stanley from Crossroads Community Church in Lady Lake, Florida, she is very active in her church. She loves being a part of the praise team, leading worship each Sunday morning. Her other ministries include Bible teaching, women's ministry and helping in the nursery. Her favorite ministry is to her husband, grown children and grandchildren. This also includes her students at Southeastern University, praying to inspire the love of learning as well as the educational and eternal difference they can make in the lives of their students.
