Biography
Dr. Joe Childs was born and raised in California and came to Southeastern in 2008 from his previous position as the chair of the business management program at Bethany University in Scotts Valley, California. He also has held executive positions in the satellite telecommunications industry and other technology-oriented start-ups. He maintains a consulting practice and has worked on accounts for Amgen, Cisco Systems, Hewlett-Packard, Sun Microsystems, Apple, and VMware.

From 1990 to 1993, he worked with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and governments as a consultant in the former Soviet Union, Romania, Hungary, and Poland as they transitioned to market economies. Because of this work, Dr. Childs was recently awarded the degree Doctor of Honoris Causa from Agora University, Oradea, Romania. His research areas include the impact of sleep deprivation on human productivity and business as mission. He is also the associate editor of the Journal of AGORA University Economic Studies. Dr. Childs currently serves on the board of directors of the Lakeland Chamber of Commerce and enjoys running half-marathons.
