Biography
Chris Fairchild has seven years of public accounting experience and passed the C.P.A. exam in 2001. He moved to Southeastern University in 2004 as the Assistant Controller in the Business Office, a position he held until moving to a full-time instructor position in 2006. He had always planned to get into the classroom, so he was more than happy to step into the full-time position when it opened up.
In the classroom, Fairchild likes to show that accounting can be fun, and he tries to make it as fun and practical as possible by mixing only a little lecture with a lot of hands-on problem solving and interaction. His favorite part of teaching is getting to know each student, in and out of the classroom. Though Fairchild expects everyone to work hard, he also expects them to laugh a lot, and he makes sure their hard work is duly rewarded.
Along with Dr. Bill Hahn, Fairchild presents continuing education classes for the local chapter of the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants (FICPA). He is also in charge of all internships through the College of Business and Legal Studies, helping students put their classroom-learned skills to work in businesses of their choice. By using a variety of assignments, Fairchild helps the interns draw connections between class material and the professional working world.
Fairchild teaches the following classes: Accounting I, Accounting II, Accounting for Non-Accountants, Advanced Managerial Accounting, and Accounting Information Systems. His research interests are financial planning, tax strategies, and technology in the accounting field. |
