Biography

Andrew Permenter serves on the Leadership Team as the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Institutional Research, overseeing data collection and reporting, academic policies and procedures, accreditation, and university assessment.

Before coming to Southeastern University in 2006, Dr. Permenter served for over 20 years as a pastor, missionary, and administrator. Ordained in the United Methodist Church in 1986, he also pastored in Presbyterian and independent congregations, specializing in home group ministry and leadership training. He was ordained in the Assemblies of God in 1999. As Director of International Missions for Global Servants from 1995 to 2001, Dr. Permenter traveled, preached, and taught extensively throughout the United States, Latin America, Africa, and Asia. He oversaw the work of over 50 missionaries worldwide while raising funds for, establishing, and constructing scores of churches and three Bible Colleges.

Dr. Permenter’s dissertation “The Pentecostal Movement and Ecumenism: Origins and Trends” notes early Pentecostalism’s vitality as an experientially-based unity movement functioning outside the structures of the organized church. Pentecostalism’s strength was in its transcendence of denominational, ethnic, gender, and socio-economic distinctions. “The in-breaking voice of God always challenges the status-quo.”

Dr. Permenter has been married to Karen for 35 years and lists his greatest accomplishments as his four adult children: “The most intelligent, interesting, hilarious people I know.”
