Southeastern University has been around since 1935, so it’s fair to say we have a rich heritage. To honor that history, we have a wide mix of traditions and events that take place throughout the year. Some are just for fun, some are more serious and some blend a mix of both. If you want to experience the heart of SEU, you won’t want to miss these.
- Welcome Week
At the start of each semester, there is always a ton of work to do to get everyone moved in, make sure they’re signed up for classes and have as much fun as possible before the first day of class.
- Battle of the Dorms
Will your residence hall have what it takes to come out on top? One of our most exciting events of the year, Battle of the Dorms brings together the entire SEU community for a competition of relays, tug of war and more.
- Mystery Bus Ride
The Mystery Bus Ride is one of our favorite SEU traditions. Not knowing what’s in store, SEU students depart from campus for a nightlong adventure, making new friends and having a ton of fun along the way. Past Mystery Bus Ride destinations include the ice-skating rink, beach, paintball center and Dave and Buster’s.
- Home Run Derby
Our annual whiffle ball tournament, held at the heart of campus, includes play-by-plays from guest commentators and plenty of hot dogs, fried Oreos and other snacks.
- Family Dinner
Every first-year student is invited to attend a Family Dinner, where they share a meal alongside other first-year students and get to know SEU’s leadership team in a relaxed, casual setting.
One of our biggest traditions each fall is Homecoming, which brings together current students, faculty and staff with alumni and supporters of the university for a celebration of Southeastern’s heritage. The celebration includes a football game, parade, bonfire, socials and other athletic events.
- Fire Walk
Our mascot, Scorch, and Fire fans gather in the Destino/Esperanza courtyard to cheer on our athletes as the football team makes its way across campus toward Victory Field.
- Red vs. Black Game
Our Fire football team faces off on opposite sides of the field at the annual Red vs. Black game, giving fans a sneak peek of what’s in store for the upcoming season at Victory Field.
- Football Tailgating
Including appearances from our mascot, Scorch, and musical quartet, the Firetones, football tailgating is a great time to join together with other Fire fans before the big game at Victory Field.
- National Leadership Forum
The National Leadership Forum began in 2007 as an event bringing together top leadership experts and public figures to share the ideal of servant leadership that Christ modeled. Past speakers include President George W. Bush, Condoleezza Rice, Tim Tebow, Benjamin Carson, Tony Dungy, Carly Fiorina and many more.
- 1 Big Night
During end-of-the-year celebrations like 1 Big Night, we love to recognize and honor our students. This event gives faculty and staff the opportunity to give thanks and present awards to students who have excelled in leadership roles or simply made significant impacts on our campus.
