Dr. Chris Fairchild has seven years of public accounting experience and passed the CPA exam in 2001. He moved to Southeastern University in 2004 as the assistant controller in the business office, a position he held until moving to a full-time instructor position in 2006. He had always planned to get into the classroom, so he was more than happy to step into the full-time position when it opened up.
In the classroom, Dr. Fairchild likes to show that accounting can be fun, and he tries to make it as interesting and practical as possible by mixing only a little lecture with a lot of hands-on problem-solving and interaction. His favorite part of teaching is getting to know each student, in and out of the classroom. Though Dr. Fairchild expects everyone to work hard, he also expects them to laugh a lot, and he makes sure that their hard work is duly rewarded.
He is also in charge of all internships through the College of Business and Legal Studies, helping students put their classroom-learned skills to work in businesses of their choice. By using a variety of assignments, Dr. Fairchild helps the interns draw connections between class material and the professional working world.
Dr. Fairchild teaches the following classes: Accounting I, Accounting II, Quantitative Methods, Managerial Cost Accounting, Not-for-Profit Accounting, Advanced Accounting I, and Advanced Accounting II. His research interests include the impact of teaching tools on classroom performance, best practices for teaching accounting courses, and rating scale rescaling methodologies.
