As an alumnus of a Christian university, Dr. Jeremy Cummings deeply appreciates Southeastern’s role in the spiritual and intellectual formation of students. He aims to teach students the principles governing human thoughts, feelings, and behaviors so they can use that knowledge to glorify God and minister to others. This task requires integrating scriptural and scientific perspectives and knowledge bases, as well as intentionally applying these resources to the challenging issues we all face.
Dr. Cummings is a licensed psychologist, and draws on a wide variety of experiences in the field of psychology to inform his teaching. He has provided psychological assessment and psychotherapy to clients with diverse backgrounds and problems in a range of settings. These include a college counseling center, a university medical center, and an inpatient psychiatric hospital. He is especially interested in understanding the roles that religion and spirituality play in people’s lives. Dr. Cummings has conducted research concerning conversion, religious beliefs, religious coping, and psychological interventions that integrate clients’ spirituality.
